Effect of sonic vibration on the reaction of a klebsiella phage and antiserum

Abstract
The reports on artificial breakage of antigen-antibody complex of bacteriophage are not so much and, especially, the papers touched about effect of mechanical action on the reacting system of ph age and it¢¥s antiserum are very few. The author has investigated the effect of sonic vibration, using Raytheon 9 kc magnetostriction sonic oscillator, on a klebsiella ph age, of which host bacteria are klebsiella pneumoniae type 2, it¢¥s antiserum and their reacting system and obtained the following results.
The activity of phage particles was not influenced, in broth and buffer solution, by the sonic vibration operated for three hours and also, the activity of anti-phage serum itself was not destroyed by the sonic vibration operated for two hours.
Sonic vibration has interfered the phage neutralization of serum and the phage particles inactivated by antiserum were also reactivated by sonic vibration. At this time, the more the inactivated phages were, the greater the number of reactivated phages was.
